The rain at the weekend...

 

...good steady rain did the trick. With the ground moist now is a great time with your border tools to fork through the borders, aerating the soil and rooting out any nettles, buttercups and bindweed – I have many!
It also gives an opportunity to check out your perennials and see which ones need dividing or creating space for new plants or summer bedding – I now have dahlias and sweet peas ready to plant among the herbaceous perennials.

I finally got round to lifting one of my peonies which has not flowered so well to raise the whole crown by at least two inches. (they hate being planted too deep). There is a common misconception that you cannot move peonies, but as you can see the one in the centre is looking healthy and happy after being moved two days ago.
